Anyone harboring a preference for antique sporting goods from the later portion of the 20th century should recognize Starter as the ‘rare candy’, as it were, of the market. The label, which experienced major success during the 1980s and ’90s from partnerships with virtually all of the major sports leagues, mysteriously receded moving forward into the 21st century. While their products garnered a certain cult following amongst collectors, the brand remained active, collaborating with various clothiers to produce limited, coveted runs of apparel. Starter recently launched its Black Label website, relieving many qualms about the availability of their products. Starter Black Label has launched in Europe for the time being, with a Spring/Summer 2013 lookbook and collection also in the works for the near future.
